With regret I am writing to inform you that my father 'Doc' Arnold Burrows 

 passed away on Boxing Day night at age 95, peacefully in his sleep.

I will be grateful if you can pass this message to relevant Wyvernians, and will send you further information in due course.

Hello,

At the Old Wyves Lunch I was asked several times about what is going to happen to Old Wyves Tales. Well, the good news is that it will continue, but will be posted on the Wyvernians website rather than emailed out to everyone. Dennis has kindly agreed to continue in his role as editor and Frank Smith will ensure that each issue is put on to the website. You will be notified each time a new edition appears on the Wyvernians website which is of course www.wyvernians.org.uk and you can then click/tap the Newsletters button.

But OWT cannot continue without your contributions. They can be a few lines or a few pages, but the important thing is that we actually receive contributions so that OWT can live on. In short, no contributions = no OWT, so please get your thinking caps on and rack your brains for your memories of City Boys. Contributions should be sent to Dennis and please note his new email address which is djduggan2023@outlook.com. The deadline for the next issue is 30th November so please send in your memories before that date.

Hello All,

The next Wyvernians Lunch will be held on Wednesday 11th October at our usual venue, the restaurant at AgeUK, Clarence House (the old school) Humberstone Gate Leicester. As you will know this is just an informal lunch, no speeches, no memorabilia, just a friendly informal get-together. If you wish to attend please let me know and I will send you a copy of the menu nearer the date. No payment will be necessary beforehand as we pay on the day. The room we use will only hold 30-35 maximum so there is a limit on numbers.

Mr Bufton

Someone at the final annual reunion requested a photo of the framed collage that was put together when Mr Bufton retired in 1960. All the teachers in the lower photo are ones that were at the school during the early 1960s - when Dennis Duggan and the rest of the reunion team were pupils.

According to my calculations Mr Bufton would have started teaching at the school in 1919 - when it was located at the Great Meeting School building in East Bond Street!

A suitable entry has been placed in the Memorabilia section of the website

CITY BOYS' SCHOOL 2023 REUNION INVITATION

Dear Fellow Wyvernian,

You are invited to the 24th  AND FINAL CBS reunion.  Please RSVP by e-mail, letter, text or phone

DATE   Saturday March 18th 2023

VENUE   Clarence House, Humberstone Gate, Leicester LE1 3PJ  (The old school)

TIME   11.00am - 3.45pm

PRICE   £16.50 to include lunch, or £10.00 entry only.  Lunch MUST be booked in advance.  The menu is below, please send choice with your payment

Complimentary water, tea and coffee will be available from 11am, plus wine with lunch. 

GUESTS   Guests are welcome.  Entry is free if no lunch required, £16.50 if they do

PARKING   There is no parking on site, but several multi-storey car parks are situated within walking distance    

MEMORABILIA   A selection from the  school memorabilia will be on display, including panoramic photographs

GUEST SPEAKER   To be announced . If you feel able to give a short talk about your schooldays or life thereafter please contact me.

RAFFLE   Please bring a prize for the raffle if you wish
