Dear Fellow Wyvernians,
As most of you know, over the past twenty three years we have amassed a considerable collection of CBS memorabilia.
Currently it is split between Brian Screaton and myself. The two halves comes together at the annual reunions, and the display is an important and integral part of the day.
Unfortunately both Brian and I now have storage problems. In my case I am obliged to keep much of the collection in a shed, and the conditions are far from ideal for the purpose.
So we are asking if any of you could offer suitable accomodation for the collection. Perhaps you have a dry, well-ventilated garage or loft, or corner of a spare room available?
To give you some idea of the space required, the whole collection would fit in a largish estate car or 4 x 4. As well as paper documents there are books, trophies, panoramic photographs, items of clothing, portraits and miscellaneous bits and bobs.
Our funds are limited, but we would be happy to offer a peppercorn rent. Obviously the storage space needs to be in Leicester, or one of the surrounding villages. Access would only be required once per year.
The collection, which is possibly a unique record of an 'ordinary' grammar school, deserves to be looked after properly. As things stand, at least part of it is at risk from poor storage conditions.
The alternative is to hand everything to the Leicestershire Records Office, the downside being it would not be available at the reunions. So we would only want to consider that option if and when the reunions are no longer viable.
If you can help, or have any ideas, please get in touch asap.
Many thanks,
Dennis
